Optical Lattice Quantum Simulation — Virtual solid made of atoms confined in an optical crystal

Our group have succeeded in generating quantum degenerate gases of ytterbium (Yb) atoms, which have two valence electrons, ahead of the world. Recently we are working on following topics:

  1. SU(N) Hubbard model which has higher symmetric spin structure than those with electrons of spin 1/2.
  2. Quantum many-body dynamics within unconventional optical lattice such as Lieb lattice or Plaquette lattice.
  3. Nonequilibrium quantum dynamics.
  4. Quantum many-body system with controlled dissipation and atom losses.
  5. Topological quantum system such as thouless pumping.

We are also working verification experiments of standard model through high-resolution spectroscopy of isotope shift of atoms localized in an optical lattice.
